    It’s November, which means it’s almost Thanksgiving, which means it’s almost Christmas! 

    For those of you who like to set up their Christmas trees in November (or even those who like to set them up in October), it’s never too early to start celebrating the holiday season! How to do it though, when it’s still November? Lucky for you, Lexington has already started setting up for the festive season with a small collection of holiday events and activities, some of which even come before Thanksgiving! It’s the most wonderful time of the year, so it only makes sense that we’d all want to prolong it by celebrating early. Bust out your peppermint mochas, put on your Christmas playlist, and dust off your Christmas sweater because here’s our list of () early holiday events to help you get into the festive spirit!

    1. Lexington Art League Holiday Market

    Free and Open to the Public! Hosted at the historic villa, the Loudoun House, by the same folks who put on the showstopperWoodland Art Fair each summer,  this market will provide the perfect setting to kick off the season. Shop fine art and crafts from over 20 local and regional artists. Get a personalized gift for a friend, or maybe a little treat for yourself. There’s plenty to see and shop at the Lexington Art League Holiday Market. We know the artists will appreciate you coming out to support local  businesses!

    2. The Southern Lights

    One of the Kentucky Horse Park’s signature events, the Southern Lights are a three-mile long spectacle of fantastic Christmas lights displays. Each year, over 120,000 visitors from across Kentucky and surrounding states come to visit, and it’s been regularly chosen as a Top 20 Event in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society.Even if you’ve been before, you can be assured that it’s worth it go again, as the displays are changed up in new and creative ways every year. It's a lovely, relaxing way to enjoy some holiday spirit while relaxing in the comfort and warmth of your car. Put on some classic Christmas music, sit back, relax, and take in the visual spectacle. 

    After driving through the lights, guests are invited to the Holiday Festival within the park. Shop crafts, observe model trains, visit with Santa, and head to the ever popular exotic petting zoo. These additional Holiday Festival attractions are open every night except November 24 and December 24 - 31.

    Location: Kentucky Horse Park *We suggest visitors use Interstate 75, Exit 115 (Newtown Pike) instead of Exit 120 (Iron Works Pike) to access the Southern Lights entrance at the KHP Campground from the east to help avoid congestion from the interstate to the west and a left-hand turn across traffic into the park.

    3. Pivot Brewing Holiday Art Fair

    Featuring local art, gifts, cider and more, on this small business Saturday, come on out to support local artists at Pivot Brewing. Grab that something special for your loved one...or just for yourself! Don’t want to brave the cold? No worries -- this event will be indoors, in the back room of Pivot's. Kids and pups are welcome!

    4. Triangle Park Ice Rink

    What says “Winter is here,” quite like ice skating?

    As most Lexington locals know, every year at Christmastime, the already beautiful Triangle Park in Downtown Lexington is transformed into a beautiful Wintery ice skating rink. This is one of Lexington’s best Christmas-themed attractions, with a large, brightly-lit Christmas tree, hot chocolate, and of course, ice-skating. For a nominal fee, you can take to the ice in the glow of charming festive decorations and one of most Instagram-worthy location in Lexington.

    If you’ve been too stressed to really experience any holiday spirit, then this is the event for you. In its first year, the Unified Trust Company Ice Rink welcomed over 22,000 skaters and an additional 65,000 visitors to Triangle Park and Downtown Lexington, and every year since then, it’s been attracting Lexingtonians with its festive cheer. Don’t forget to grab a warm mug of hot chocolate to complete the skating experience, and we’ll see you out on the ice rink! 

    Triangle Park is now open for the winter and will stay open through the middle of January.

    5. Woodford Theatre + The Woodford Theatre Young Artists present: DISNEY’S FROZEN JR.

    Disney’s worldwide phenomenon is taking Central Kentucky by (snow)storm! The enchanting modern fairytale from Disney, Frozen Jr. is based on the 2018 Broadway musical, which is based on the hit animated film (which is based on the Hans Christian Anderson tale, The Snow Queen). The show features all of the memorable songs from the film, plus five new songs written specially for the Broadway production. Frozen JR. expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princess Anna and Queen Elsa not seen in the film, making it a must-see for fans of the original. With the Christmas season just around the corner, get ready for some holiday fun with this performance by The Woodford Theatre Young Artists  for a story of magic, adventure, and plenty of humor. Music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez & Robert Lopez, Book by Jennifer Lee.

    6. Lexington Humane Society Holiday Boutique

    Happy Pawlidays! The LHS Holiday Boutique opens on November 18 and will run through December 26. By shopping the boutique, you'll find gifts for people, gifts for pets, and gifts for people who love their pets!  The best part of it all? 100% of the proceeds benefit the animals of LHS, so your contributions will go towards helping the LHS to save more animals from the shelters and from the streets!
