Shen Yun Chinese Dance Performance Coming To EKU
Here’s an event you don’t see come through Central Kentucky every day - a large scale theatrical performance of Chinese story-based dance that takes you on an enlightening journey through 5,000 years of history!
Shen Yun, a touring performing arts group from New York City, boasts a unique artistic vision that expands the theatrical experience into a multi-dimensional, inspiring journey through ancient Chinese culture and society. There was once a time when China was known as the Land of the Divine, when it was scarcely contested by people around that world that Chinese culture was the highest form there was, and this performance seeks to take its audience back to this lost civilization.
With classical Chinese dance, brilliant costumes, artistic backdrops, and an enchanting orchestra, you will be instantly transported to another world and witness ancient legends come to life in an experience like no other. Featuring one of the world’s oldest art forms— classical Chinese dance—along with patented special effects and all-original orchestral works, Shen Yun serves as a lens on a a civilization of beauty and wisdom.
It also serves as a lens on Chinese spirituality, which is part of what makes Shen Yun special and unique from other traditional Chinese dance performances. In China, such strong spiritual themes in the arts are strongly prohibited by the government. Thus, Shen Yun makes for a showcase of Chinese culture unique to the West.
And now, this phenomenal cultural experience is coming here to Central Kentucky’s own Eastern Kentucky Center for the Arts as a part of a two-night special performance! This is definitely something you don’t want to miss; traditional western ballets such as The Nutcracker or Swan Lake are always touring, but a traditional Chinese dance tour of this magnitude is significantly more rare. This is the perfect chance to get out the house during these cold February days and take in some culture!
