Can you believe it’s a whole new decade? The roaring 20’s are back, which can only mean one thing -- more new events to celebrate the start of a new era. It’s the first month of the year, which means that it’s time to see our city in an all new way. Come check out what the second-largest city in Kentucky has to offer to do and see, from dining to events to shows. The University of Kentucky and the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government invites you to join them on January 20, 2020 at Heritage Hall in the Lexington Convention Center for this free event celebrating the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The event kicks off with a public Freedom March at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Commemorative Holiday Program in Heritage Hall at 11:00 a.m where Rev. Dr. Raphael Warnock, the Senior Pastor of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, spiritual home of Martin Luther King, Jr., will be the keynote speaker. Following Rev. Dr. Warnock’s address, singer/composer DONNIE will perform. He was nurtured artistically in the same musical tradition that gave rise to such singers as India Arie, Anthony David, D’Angelo and other artists often characterized as “Neo-Soul”. Later that day at 2:30pm, the Kentucky Theatre will have a free showing of the Academy Award-winning film, Green Book.

Any Lexington local knows the hype of a UK Athletics event, so add that to the fanfare of the UK-Vanderbilt rivalry and this is sure to be one of the best games of the season! If you have guests, this is your chance to get them to join the Big Blue Nation and root for the Wildcats. Kentucky’s got a pretty solid-looking team this year, and they should easily make it into the March Madness tournament if they keep it up. This is their chance to prove that they’re better than their early season losses, that they’ve practiced together, and that they’re ready to be the #1 team they were originally slotted as. A win here could be big.

During the LexArts Gallery HOP, thousands of locals and visitors alike converge on downtown Lexington to celebrate art - from painting, to music, to pottery and everything in between! throughout the evening with new gallery exhibitions and special arts events. There are dozens of gallery exhibits and special art events, making the LexArts HOP arguably Lexington's most anticipated arts celebrations. Occurring on the third Friday of every other month, each of the 40+ sites presents exciting new art and artists to explore, thanks to the generosity of many, admission is always free.
Though many shops, galleries and supporting venues are open earlier, official HOP hours are 5-8pm, with many restaurants, bars and other non-traditional venues staying open later.

The second-best basketball team in the world, after the UK Wildcats, are easily the Harlem Globetrotters. The World Famous Harlem Globetrotters will bring their ridiculous basketball skills and amazing athletes to Rupp Arena on Friday, Jan. 17, 2020! A star-studded roster will have fans on the edge of their seats to witness the ball handling wizardry, basketball artistry and one-of-a-kind family entertainment that thrills fans of all ages.

5. Lexington Farmers’ Market
Come support farmers while tasting the finest produce Lexington has to offer. As most Lexington locals know, every year at the holidays, the already beautiful Triangle Park in Downtown Lexington is transformed into a enchanted winter-themed ice skating rink. This is one of Lexington’s best Christmas-themed attractions. There’s a large, brightly-lit Christmas tree, hot chocolate, and of course, ice-skating -- everything you could possibly want for a fun evening preparing for the holiday season. It’s like a mini, less-crowded version of New York's iconic Rockefeller Center!
For a nominal fee, you can take to the ice in the glow of charming festive decorations and one of most Instagram-worthy locations in Lexington. If you’ve been too stressed to really experience any holiday spirit, then this is the event for you. Don’t forget to grab a warm mug of hot chocolate and some Big L’s Gourmet Hot Dogs to complete the winter experience.

The Ice Rink is open New Years Eve and New Years Day.
An admission and skate rental fee of $14 will allow guests to enjoy 90 minutes on the ice.
