A thoughtfully designed roof rainwater catch system transfers rainwater to a 275-gallon IBC container for showering, washing dishes, and laundry. During dry periods, a backup groundwater supply is pumped from a cistern and processed through a multi-stage filtration system, including particulate and carbon filters, before being transferred to the IBC container for household use. Fresh drinking water is available from a nearby natural mineral spring that is piped to a central filling area for Trapper Lake cabin owners. The spring is tested annually by the local trail committee, allowing owners to conveniently fill 3- to 5-gallon containers with fresh drinking water.
Alaska's wildlife is all around, creating an incredible setting for experiencing nature up close. Moose, bear, wolves, eagles, loons, and other native wildlife can be seen throughout the area, adding to the authentic wilderness experience.
Access is part of the adventure! During the summer, arrive by floatplane and land near the floating dock. In winter, park at Susitna Landing at Mile 83 and travel approximately 8 miles, about 30 minutes by snowmachine, on a groomed trail across the Big Susitna River. A winter shortcut is also available, shortening the snowmachine ride when conditions allow.
