Welcome to the 'Moody Mansion', a local landmark with a fascinating history and a stunning example of Queen Anne Victorian architecture and impressive late 1800's craftsmanship. Leonard Moody was an East Pittston native who grew up farming and cutting wood in the mid 1800s. He married a woman from New York, moved there, and became the leading real estate broker in Brooklyn. The home served as the Moody family 'summer cottage' until it was sold in 1905. At the time, newspapers cited the home as being the finest in the county, with no expenses or luxuries spared during the design and construction. According to the National Register of Historic Places, 'the Moody Mansion retains the scale and stylistic features that invoke the leisure ethic as expressed in Maine at the turn of the twentieth century' and 'continues to be an intact example of a well designed, upperclass summer cottage.'
